Onionsets Centurion
691502Produces heavy yields of early maturing and strong growing, uniform globe shaped onions with a golden skin and a crisp, white flesh with a medium to strong flavour. has a good quality storage ability.
STORAGE
Remove Onion Sets from all packaging and spread out in a cool, well-lit place to prevent premature sprouting until ready for planting.
PLANTING
Onion Sets should be planted in an open sunny, sheltered site with good drainage. Rake the surface of the soil when dry and then tread over and rake again to provide a fine even soil. Plant onions in rows 10cm (4) apart so that the tip is just showing and firm the soil around them. Further rows can be planted 20cm (10 inches) apart. To prevent birds lifting the Onion Sets carefully remove the loose skin at the top before planting.
CARE/CULTIVATION
Dense weed growth may affect the yield so remove any weeds by hand or hoe carefully. Only water the Onion Sets during dry periods. Applying mulch while the onions are growing will suppress weeds and cut down on the need to water. Once the Onions have swollen, remove the soil around the onion to expose the bulb surface to the sun and stop watering.
HARVESTING
The Onions are ready for harvesting when the foliage turns yellow and topples over. Lift the Onions with a fork and leave to dry for at least two weeks either laid in the sun or in a shed. Once dried store the Onions in a cool, dry, well-lit place either in trays, net bags or tied to a length of cord making an Onion Rope.
CONTAINER PLANTING
Select a container that is at least 25cm (10 inches) deep and add crocks to the bottom of the container to help with drainage. Fill the container with potting soil and mix in a slow release fertilizer. Follow the Planting, Care and Harvesting instructions as listed above.
