Whats the difference between a condenser dryer and vented dryer?

Last Updated:

A condenser dryer and a vented dryer are two different types of clothes dryers that use different methods to dry clothes.

A vented dryer, also known as a traditional dryer, uses a vent to expel hot air and moisture from the dryer drum to the outside of the home. This hot air and moisture is vented through a hose or duct to the exterior of the home. The venting process is important because it helps to prevent the build-up of excess moisture and heat inside the home, which can cause mold and mildew.

A condenser dryer, on the other hand, uses a condenser to cool and condense the hot and moist air generated during the drying process. The condenser cools the air, causing the moisture to condense back into water. This water is then collected in a reservoir located inside the dryer. Because the air is not vented to the outside, a condenser dryer can be placed in any location in the home, as long as it has access to electricity.

The main difference between a condenser dryer and a vented dryer is the way in which they expel the hot and moist air from the drying process. Vented dryers require an external vent or duct to expel the hot air and moisture outside the home, while condenser dryers use a condenser to cool the air and collect the moisture in a reservoir.

Additionally, Condenser dryers also require regular cleaning, because lint and other debris can build up in the condenser, which can affect the efficiency of the dryer.

Overall, Both have their pros and cons, condenser dryers have a more flexible placement option, but require maintenance and cleaning whereas Vented dryers need an exterior vent but don't require any extra maintenance.
