There was no way we could talk about Monaghan without turning it into a Patrick
Kavanagh sandwich.
The first layer of bread having this quote:
“We have tested and tasted too much, lover-
Through a chink too wide there comes in no wonder.”
The filling is packed with all the amazing things Monaghan has to offer. Home to the
character of Francy Brady aka The Butcher Boy. One of the most quotable movies of all time. For the crafty among you, you can spend an afternoon at Carrickmacross Lace. How delightful!
Though there is so many more Monaghan wonders we could put in our sandwich, we will
put the top layer of bread on now with another Patrick Kavanagh gem:
“My advice is this, do whatever pleases yourself. These things don’t matter. What does
matter is that if you have anything worth while in you, any talent, you should deliver it.
Nothing must turn you from that.”
We should have listened in Leaving Cert English more. Sorry teacher, we get it now!
